How Does A Digital Frame Work?
I got a digital frame with 128mb built in flash. I know that I can take a memory card from my camera and pictures from my computer and store them on the internal memory in the frame. But someone said it doesn’t hold very much. Is it possible to take the pics I have from both sources and get it to another memory card (through the frame) and use that to store more pics. Basically, I don’t want to have to keep my camera memory card in the photo frame all the time to have the pics playing. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the software loading programs which come with digital picture frames are not very good in reducing larger files into smaller files. And since memory cards are fairly inexpensive [other than DX Fuji/Olympus memory cards], they work very efficiently to provide the necesssary image library. Also take note that most of the instructions that come with digital frame are wanting, they fail to instruct on how to priortize or catalog the various pictures or to arrange them in a particular order. Nevertheless I recently purchased a competent digital frame from samys.com for around $100. It’s the “Hiti” brand of digital frames. But, the instructions are not very complete, as usual.

You can buy another card (SD, Memory Stick, etc.). Copy your pictures to your computer. Then put in the new card and copy the pictures you want in the frame onto the (new) card. The card will show up on your computer as a drive letter (Drive E, F, G, etc.). Drag & drop the pictures there (you can access it via “My Computer” on a PC, on a Mac, a folder will show up on your desktop that is the card).

Make a folder on your computer and COPY the images you want to put on the frame to this folder. Now modify these new files to make them a smaller file size, (you gain nothing having a 3mb file on the digiframe) If your file size is about 200 to 300k you should be fine for most digiframes. At this file size you should be able to store hundreds of pics on the frame.
If you don’t know how to reduce file size do a search in YA as it’s been asked before.
Then just load them via frame instructions and enjoy.
PS - the smaller files will load to the framemuch faster too.

You can use external memory for your frame, that isn’t very expensive, you might also want to consider resizing your pictures to the frame size, that way you don’t lose anything from the image you see but you save some memory space.
